Joy to the world, the new Cricut Joy has finally arrived! Cricut Joy is Cricut’s smallest smart cutting and writing machine ever!

We had the opportunity to head to Cricut headquarters to get a first look at the new Cricut Joy and we knew it was going to be a game changer for our small space and hectic schedule.

Q: What does an apartment with a craft room in NYC and a unicorn have in common? 

A: They don’t exist! 

Typically, when we craft it takes longer to set up and gather materials than it takes to make the actual project. We love our one bedroom apartment, but a craft room is a distant dream. 

Cricut Joy is perfect for us because it’s compact, portable, and sets up instantly-making it super easy to move from room to room. Now we can cut out vinyl on our small coffee table as we binge watch or make labels on our kitchen counter as we reorganize the cabinets. 

Now don’t get it twisted…we still LOVE our Cricut Maker, but Cricut Joy is our newborn baby and will be the perfect companion to our Maker. We’ll still rock our Cricut Maker for our bigger elaborate projects that have wider designs and need more cutting power. For smaller, practical everyday projects Cricut Joy will be our new go-to!

What do I need to know about Cricut Joy?

• Mats Optional! Cricut Joy has a line of brand-new materials that do not require a mat which means less to buy, fewer steps and faster results! The new Cricut Joy Smart Vinyl comes in extended sizes up to 20’, with repeated cut capability and no need to switch out mats. Set it and forget it! (20′ Smart Vinyl is available in certain colors only.)

Iron-On Felt Zipper Pouch

In honor of Cricut Joy’s small size we thought we’d personalize a pouch to keep some craft supplies in. Little did we know when we ordered the pouch, it would end up being bigger than JOY! 

We designed and made this quick project all from the comfort of our couch and our iphone! Ah, the modern world.

MATERIALS:

• Cricut Joy

• Cricut Joy Smart Iron-On Black

• EasyPress Mini

• Zipper Pouch

HOW TO:

It’s as easy as picking a project, letting Joy do all the work and then putting it all together…but we’ll break it down for ya!

Step 1: On your phone or tablet open our free cut file in the Cricut Design Space app. Resize if needed, click “Make it” and then “Mirror”.

Step 2: Cut vinyl down to size. The app lets you know how much vinyl you’ll need, so there’s little waste.

Step 3: Set material (Smart Iron-On) and press “Go”!

Step 4: Load Cricut Joy by simply sliding the Smart Iron-On shiny side down through the two brackets. Joy will detect and grab the material, double checking there’s enough length before cutting. 

Step 5: When Cricut Joy’s done cutting, press “Unload” and check out it’s handy work! So professional!

Step 6: Peel and weed away any extra Iron-On.

Step 7: Preheat the EasyPress Mini on low setting. 

Step 8: Preheat pouch for 5 seconds. Center Iron-On face down, liner side up and press while moving with light pressure for 30 seconds. Tip: Slide a book inside the pouch to create a flat surface.

Step 9: Carefully peel off liner while warm for the big reveal!

Throw in all your “small things” or give it as a gift to someone who will think you spent way more time and energy making it than you actually did!

Time after time we put off doing simple projects, because of the hassle of setting up in our space…but not anymore!  Cricut Joy is our answer to the long list of simple ideas we’ve been putting off because of laziness and time restraints. 

Also, it fits seamlessly with our home decor, so it’s always in reach… so, no more excuses! We could go on and on, but writing this post has gotten us excited to go customize and personalize everything we own!
