Let’s be honest, we’ve been spending a lot of time at home lately and refreshing our space however we can is always good idea! Whatever gets you through, right?
In this post we will share our favorite essential oil blends, show you how to make your own reed diffuser (that wont rob the bank) and give you the basics on how to use Plasti Dip.

Reed diffusers are a popular way to add consistent fragrance to a room without the use of heat, flame or electricity.
They way reed diffusers work is- oils seep up through the reeds and disperse scent into the air. Diffusers are usually expensive and filled with unnatural fragrances, but the truth is you can make one at home with stuff you probably already have! All you need is a glass vessel with a narrow mouth (otherwise the liquid evaporates too quickly), some wooden sticks and a quick essential oil solution!

We’re adding a modern touch to our diffuser with a quick dip in Plasti Dip! Not only does it elevate the look…it keeps our diffuser from slipping…which is a great thing when you have a curious cat like we do!

-
Prep- Wash and dry the glass bottle and plastic container to remove any dust particles before dipping. Stir the Plasti Dip thoroughly and gently before each use.
-
Pour- Slowly pour Plasti Dip into a plastic container that is wide enough to fit the bottom of the bottle that you will be dipping. Be sure to pour enough Plasti Dip to cover the amount you want the bottle to be covered.

-
Dip- Dip the glass bottle slowly into the Plasti Dip and count to five before lifting the bottle out.

-
Dry- Turn the bottle upside down. The Plasti Dip will slightly drip giving an organic look. Place the bottle upside down somewhere out of the sun or wind for at least four hours.

-
Cut Reed Diffuser Sticks- Cut off the tips of wooden skewers with a pair of cutters or heavy duty scissors. The amount of skewers depends on the size of your bottle. We used about 11 for ours. If you don’t have skewers, wooden dowels would work too…anything wooden will help cary the scent!

Create Your Mixture- No need to grab measuring cups, you can totally eyeball this right into the glass!
-
3/4 with filtered water
-
1/4 Vodka
-
15-30 drops of your favorite essential oils
Place your reeds in the mixture allowing them to get saturated. Pull them out and flip them over placing the opposite ends into the bottle. This will help the scent distribute around the room.

Essential Oil Combinations:
Here are some of our favorites! Different brands smell different, so create your ratio as you go! Tip: Test your scent. If you’re trying a new blend, add the drops in a separate container before adding it to your solution.
-
Lemon + Rosemary (very homey)
-
Lemon + Lavender (uplifting)
-
Eucalyptus + Lavender (smells like a spa)
-
Ylang Ylang + Geranium (smells like spring)
-
Orange + Clove (smells like the holidays)
Upkeep:
-
Flip reeds weekly to keep things smelling strong.
-
Stir your reeds when you think of it to help freshen up the smell.
-
Change out the liquid solution when it starts to evaporate or when the scent starts to fade.
