Summer camp is the best short lived time of your life. It’s like college without the work.
We’re throwing it back and reliving some summer-camp craft-goodness. We wanted to make weathered looking tropical inspired planters with pops of color using craft sticks and acrylic paint-camp craft essentials!
We’ve been loving all the craft supplies Target’s been carrying and we will use any excuse to go; we love a Target run!!

While we were there we discovered Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paint!
It’s perfect for wood, terra cotta, plaster and paper mache that provides excellent coverage. It’s also non-toxic, which is perfect for our curious cat.

You’ll need:
-
Delta Ceramcoat (they have a variety of colors and come in 2oz & 8oz)
-
Calypso Coral
-
Deep Sea Coral
-
Pumpkin
-
Caribbean Blue
-
Palmetto
-
Burnt Umber
-
Moss
-
Hot Glue Gun or Super Glue
-
Heavy Duty Scissors
-
Paint Brushes
-
Water
-
Small Potted Plant
HOW TO:
Pair Them Up – Create support pieces by cutting down a couple of craft sticks into smaller pieces. Match up two sticks and glue a support piece in the middle of both using either super glue or a hot glue gun. (we made 12 pairs for our planter)

Add Color – Brush on random patches of different colored Ceramcoat acrylic paint to the front, sides and back edges of the craft sticks and let dry. Paint five single craft sticks for the bottom.
Add Top Coat – In a dish, add a few drops of water to slightly thin out brown acrylic paint. Paint a light layer on top and let dry.
Create A Weathered Look – Lightly sand down random areas of the topcoat with 220 grit sand paper to reveal color then wipe down clean.
Build and Glue – Create a box by attaching the sticks together with the notches. TIP: Use a small dab of superglue or hot glue in each inner corner for support.
Glue Bottom – Glue the 5 single sticks across the bottom of basket to create a base for the plant to rest on.
Add Plant – Add a layer of moss to the bottom of the basket and insert plant still in its pot. Fill in the sides and top with moss.
Add wire to hang. (optional)

This is a fresh and elevated camp style craft that has got us in the mood for some bug juice!

It’s a perfect activity for those hot summer days when you want to stay inside with the AC cranking!

I like the unique look of these, especially lightly painting over the brighter colors with the brown wash. Great arrangement!
Thank you so much! Totally camp craft throwback!
Very creative!
