Summer is the perfect time for fresh fruit cocktails. During the week we like to prep for the weekend so we can relax and really take advantage of the summer sun! Prepping for fancy cocktails isn’t as hard as you think. Making an easy fresh berry simple syrup in advance is a great way to add an artisanal element to your typical summer cocktail.

Blueberry & Blackberry Simple Syrup
1 Cup- Blueberries
1 Cup- Black Berries
1 Cup- Sugar
2/3 Mint Leaves

Add blueberries, blackberries, mint and sugar into a small sauce pan over medium heat.
Stir occasionally for about 15 min. Smash berries with the back of a fork or a potato masher.
Strain syrup in a mesh strainer.
Chill until ready to use.
One of our favorite go-to summer cocktails-
Whiskey Berry Lemonade:
-
1 Cup fresh squeezed lemons (about 4 big lemons)
-
1 Cup Whiskey
-
Summer berry simple syrup to taste
-
Sprig of mint
-
Ice
Add all above ingredients to a shaker and shake shake shake!!
Top off with a splash of seltzer, tonic or ginger ale.
Garnish with mint and blueberries.

Homemade simple syrup makes a great great gift and will last up to 5 days in the refrigerator (because of the berries) or a few months in the freezer.
Drink deliciously and responsibly!

Can’t wait to try making these. I’ve made a simple Syrup from my blackberries for eating on pancakes or biscuits but not an actual Simple Syrup for drinks… I’ve looking forward to taste testing.
