Spring is here, which gives us the urge to purge and organize! Every few months we take all our materials and try to declutter the chaos.

We live in a one bedroom apartment and don’t have a craft room, so storage is always an issue. We like to pretend we live a minimal life so we store craft supplies in every hidden spot imaginable. It works, but it’s a journey to start any project! On HGTV Handmade we went through our supplies, got organized and moved our craft essentials to our bookshelf in our living room! Surprisingly, it came out very handy and it looks great too!

Gather all your supplies-Group together like items and make one pile to keep and one pile to donate or throw out.
Throw away old products-Check expiration dates and toss out any old or dried out materials.
Donate what you don’t need-Most local hospitals, schools and senior centers will happily take donated supplies. The things you don’t use can live on and make someones day!
Create hidden storage-Cut a piece of foam board to the size of the back of a shelf and wrap it with fabric or paper. Hide those craft materials you don’t use often by storing them towards the back of the shelf and placing the foam board in front of them.

Add your craft supplies to your home decor-Color coordinate items like pencils and markers into separate jars. You’d be surprised how cohesive everything looks when grouped together in like colors. Soooo cute and colorful!
Make clear jar dividers-Glass jars are a great way to store small items. But make them even more organized by cutting a piece of velum paper to the size of the inside of a jar for a simple divider. Divide materials and store them separately, but in the same jar!
Fix your tangled thread-Keep your embroidery thread untangled with a clothes pin. Lay the end of a piece of thread long ways on top of a clothes pin. Wrap the thread around the middle of the clothes pin. Once done wrapping, open the clothes pin and secure the end of the thread in it’s teeth.
Hide your craft supplies in plain site-Cover the back labels of your glue bottles with decorative tape leaving the front of the labels exposed. This way you can still easily read what they are. Turn your bottles backwards when storing them them to give them a less cluttered look.

Hang your supplies for easy access-Use a tension rod and S-hooks to hang scissors, hole punches and any other craft supplies with handles for a quick grab and go!
Flip your paint-Store paint upside down in bins or boxes and with like colors to easily find the specific paint color you’re looking for. Place the boxes on their sides for instant art!

Absolutely LOVE the idea of donating paints and craft supplies to nursing homes/senior facilities! I never thought of that before. It makes me feel worthwhile ❤
Aw love hearing that! It makes us feel the same way!
Love your energy, great ideas. You’ve given me some great ideas for space saving too.
