What we looked for when picking these top 5 tools:

We have a ton of craft tools and not a lot of space. We have tools we use a lot and those at the bottom of drawers we never take the time to pull out. We picked these five tools based on….

  1. What we personally use the most.
  2. What we think is versatile and can be used for multiple types of projects.
  3. What we think is cost effective.

Top Five Tools

Craft tool to help small business. Paper Trimmer

Paper Trimmer

A paper trimmer is a great way to cut all different materials with precision and straight lines. This paper trimmer cuts all different sized pieces of paper easily. It has a 12” cut length which is perfect for scrapbook paper, photo paper, cardstock or computer paper. Fiskars’ keeps it easy to measure with a 15” swing out arm and a easy to read grid that insures cutting accuracy. Something else we love about this tool is that it’s nice and flat and can easily be put into a drawer without taking a lot of room. We get a lot of use out of this tool with projects that aren’t even craft related and think it’s a definite must! If you are looking to cut thicker material like cardboard and stuff like that, check out the Rotary Bypass Trimmer, it’s hefty and gets the job done well!

Craft tool to help small business. Scissor Sharpener.

Universal Scissor Sharpener

We almost put a good pair of scissors on the list, but we thought that would be too obvious. The trick to a good pair of scissors is keeping them sharp. Fiskars is known for their orange handled classic scissors, but even if you don’t own a pair, you can use their sharpener on any brand! We’ve tried different hacks to sharpening scissors, sand paper, tinfoil, but nothing works as well as this. If you’re using your scissors daily for your business, invest in a sharpener, you’ll definitely see the difference! *Doen’t work for pinking shears or scissors with serrated blades.

Gifting Board

If you are selling small products, the gifting board makes paper boxes, envelopes, and bows in just minutes. You can make boxes from 2”x2” to 4”x4” or any dimension between. It automatically indicates score lines and paper sizes, once you set the height and width of the box you want. If you want to amp up your product packaging (which is a great way to standout) this can be a huge money saver since you only need cardstock or scrapbook paper. This is a great alternative to using a cutting machine and is also just fun to use! Here’s a tutorial on how to make a box!

Craft tool to help small business. Tag Maker

Tag Maker with Built-in Eyelet Setter

If you’re looking for a simple way to amp up your product- add a tag. It’s a great way to add your logo, a friendly greeting or thank you with your personal flair. The tag maker will easily punch out a 2”x3” paper tag and has a built-in eyelet setter that adds a high end detail without having to hammer. We’ve used this punch for a few years now and it’s super durable and sturdy.

Curved Vinyl Alignment Tool

There’s no doubt that vinyl decals have taken off. If you work with them, you know how stressful if can be to get everything placed straight and centered. The Alignment Tool horizontally and vertically aligns vinyl on curved surfaces. This is ideal for consistent, repeat placement. If you’re making multiples of something, this will definitely help speed the process. It also comes in a a flat version, perfect for flat surfaces.
