The holidays are in full swing! Create a forest of plaid trees with this easy folding technique. All you need is paper and a pair of scissors to make these festive plaid origami trees to add to your holiday decor or table centerpieces. This can be a great non denominational holiday decoration and can be added to any home for the winter!

Materials:

• Fiskars Paper Cutter
• Boning Tool
• Scissors
• Metal Ruler 
• Fiskars Gifting Board (optional to make boxes)
• Plaid Cardstock

How To:

Cut your cardstock into a square:

Start with a square piece of cardstock. The size of the cardstock will determine the size of the tree. If you’re making a handful of trees use a paper cutter to cut cardstocks into different size squares. Tip: The thicker the paper the trickier this is to fold, so if you’re trying it for the first time, try it with a thinner piece to keep it easy.

Start folding the creases:

• Lay your swuare of cardstock on a table with the white side up.
• Fold it in half edge to edge.
• Open it up again and fold it in half in the other direction.
• Open it again and fold it across diagonally in both directions.
• Open out and lay flat with the white side facing up. Using the creases you have previously made bring the top 3 corners down to meet at the bottom corner. Press flat. You should now have a diamond shape.

Fold the tree:

• Fold the sides in to meet at the centre crease.
• Flip over and repeat on the other side.
• Open one of the flaps back out and flatten. Take the outer edge and collapse it by folding it into the centre.
• Repeat for the other side.
• Flip it over and repeat.

Cut and fold the “branches”:

• Create a flat bottom by, cutting the bottom point off your tree.
• Cut 3 horizontal lines on each side of the triangle.
• Starting on one sise fold each cut line down to make a small triangle. Fold to the left like a page and repeat by folding down each cut line on the right.
• Keep folding and turning until all the branches have been folded. When you reach the end flip it over and repeat on the other side.

These are so adorable on their own, but you can pair them with paper boxes using Fiskars gifting board.
