Happy winter!! Yes, it’s still winter!!
We have the itch to start decorating for spring, however, here in NY we still have at least a month of frigid days, late snow storms and slush. When we decorate for spring too early and its till a wintery mess out there, we start getting irritated that the weather doesn’t match the decor.
So, before we jump into spring decor; we’re going to keep it a bit wintery inside.

Decorating for a season that is so specifically associated to the holidays can be a bit tricky.
Here are some tips we used to decorate our new(ish) hanging shelf.
-
Add winter touches mixed in with things you love- your display doesn’t need to be a winter wonderland, some small nods to the season with a mix of every day items you love will do the trick!
-
Keep everything cohesive with color- For Valentine’s Day we had a lot of pinks and reds, we wanted to fully switch it up and go blue and green. Gather all items with similar colors, even if they feel random they’ll fit together if they are in the same color pallet.
-
Add greenery- This tip should be applied for all seasons, but just because it’s winter doesn’t mean they need to be evergreens. We use faux plants and succulents because they are perfect for winter and in spots of our apartment that don’t get any sunlight…which is most of our apartment.
-
Books books books- Whenever we need filler we add books. Take off book jackets to show solid color covers. If your books don’t match the color scheme, cover them in fabric or paper!

Here’s to getting through the winter- one decorated shelf at a time!
