Paper Star & Moon Garland DIY

One thing that we love about our Cricut Maker is the ability to tackle large tedious projects! We created this whimsical star garland to add to our Fortune Teller Halloween tree for that extra sparkle! It’s technically not a large project, because of the size, but we made them in bulk, (about 30 strands) so it ended up being a big project.

Although we made this garland for Halloween it’s a versatile craft, with some tweaks it would look great for- Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, 4th of July or Birthdays.

In this post we are going to go over the steps on how we made this garland and share some of the tips we learned along the way.

Materials

Cricut Cutting Machine
Gold Foil Paper
Gold Floral Wire
Wire Cutters
Paint Brush
Glue Gun or Tape

How To:

1. Cut Out Stars – Use a cutting machine to cut out stars on foil cardstock. If you don’t have a cutting machine you can easily use a star punch or even cut them out by hand!

2. Cut Wire – Cut a piece of floral wire about a third longer than you want the length to be. We cut each strand about 3 feet long, we found it easier to put in our tree that way.

3. Add Stars – Hot glue stars to the wire all facing the same direction different lengths apart from each other. We started off by taping the stars (as you can see in the pictures, but found that hot gluing them to the wire was quicker and held better.

Tips: The floral wire has a tendency to wiggle a lot during this process. Keep things easy by taping down the ends of the wire to your surface; this will also help ensure that the stars are all in the same direction. If you’re making a garland that will be seen from all angles, sandwich two stars together with the wire in between.

4. Coil Wire – Twist parts of the wire around the handle of a paintbrush about 2-6 times for a whimsical added detail. You can use a pencil or a pen, but we really liked the tight coils a thin paintbrush gave us!

When we think about our tree’s theme we think of different layers of the story. Our star garland was the smallest thing we had on our tree, but it really tied everything together.
