We love to make our own ornaments…the funny thing is we make more ornaments for Halloween than Christmas. We find that there’s more room for over the top creativity with a Halloween tree. Every year we seem to get a little more elaborate!
When we came up with this year’s theme we immediately thought of crystal ball ornaments. We couldn’t stop elaborating on these, so it’s a bit of a process, but the glowing result is well worth it!

Materials:
-
Silver and Teal Alcohol Ink
-
Rubbing Alcohol
-
Dropper
-
Small Spray Bottle
-
Brass Paper Fasteners
-
Drill – Step Drill Bit
-
Painters Tape
-
Small Round Tin
-
Washi Tape
-
Cording
-
Glue Gun
-
Floral wire
-
Mod-Podge Ultra or Sealer

Add alcohol ink to each of the halves of the ornament. There’s really no right or wrong way to do this, play around and enjoy the process!
-
Open the ornament and add a small amount of rubbing alcohol inside one of the halves.
-
While wet, add about 4 or five drops silver and teal alcohol ink. Swirl the ink around, going as close to the edge as possible .
-
Now for the fun part! Fill the dropper with rubbing alcohol and add drops on top of the ink. Keep swirling and watch the magic.
-
Use a spray bottle full of rubbing alcohol for a speckled look.
-
Once you’re happy with the outcome, let dry and add a light coat of clear sealer.
-
Do the same to the other half of the ornament.
(We kept one of the halves more transparent for the front of the crystal ball to help your skull shines through.)
Drill holes into the backside of the ornament for lighting.
-
Add painters tape to the back of the center of one of the halves (this will be the backside of the ball).
-
With a step drill bit, drill a hole the size of a Christmas…we mean Halloween light bulb.
-
Drill another hole about an inch underneath. (One hole for the skull the other hole to light up the ball.)
Prep and glue the skull.
-
With a pair of scissors create a hole in the back of the skull.
-
Add gold eyes with brass paper fasteners or beads.
-
Line up the hole of the skull to the top hole in the ornament and hot glue.

Glue and decorate the base.
-
Close your ornament and glue to the inside of the tin.
-
Add decorative washi tape.
-
Add gold or silver cording. (Distress cording with watered down paint for a creepy look!)

Glue floral wire to hang.
-
Hot glue or super glue floral wire to the back of the ornament to help hang on your tree.
-
Thread the Halloween lights into the holes and wait to see your fortune!

Who could have foreseen how incredible these look? (see what we did there?)
